KNIGHTS OF THE ARMOR FORCE
Tips for Memorizing the Creed of the Noncommissioned Officer
1. Read the NCO Creed carefully and try to understand the meaning of each paragraph. It's much easier to commit something to memory if it has value and meaning to you. As you read each paragraph try writing a journal entry about how it applies to your daily duties, this will help to cement it in your mind.
2. Write each paragraph on a separate index card. This is a time-honored way to memorizing subjects. It makes it portable so you can reference it throughout the duty day.
3. Memorize a sentence at a time. This is especially helpful on the longer passages. Break the paragraph down into logical phrases to make it easier to remember. Once you have one sentence memorized, add the next one. That way, you're reinforcing what you've already learned while adding something new.
4. Post copies of the NCO Creed where you will see it throughout the day. This lets you take the "top of mind" approach. Put the NCO Creed front and center where you will encounter it often. Add a copy to your leader book and even on the mirror where you shave. Also, post it as a background screen on your computer and on your Blackberry if you have one.
Remember that the reason for memorizing the Creed of the Noncommissioned Officer is so that you can refer to it as a guide throughout your career.
